The game of College basketball was planed by James Naismith in 1892. The first evidence game connecting a college basketball team took place in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on 1893 when the Geneva College Covenanters beaten the New Brighton YMCA. The first intercollegiate College Basketball game was played on 1895 when Minnesota State School of Agriculture overcome Hemline College by a score of nine to three. The first intercollegiate basketball game concerning the now recognizable five player format happened in Iowa City, Iowa in 1896 when the University of Chicago won the University of Iowa of a score 15 to 12. Before that time, there were more often than not seven to nine players on each College Basketball team.

By the turn of the 20th Century, sufficient colleges were College basketball teams that leagues started to shape. The NCAA was established in Chicago in 1906. The first NCAA Men's College Basketball finals contest was held before 5,500 fans who bought College Basketball tickets in Evanston, Illinois in1939. That year, the University of Oregon beat Ohio State 46 to 33 in the final College Basketball game to win the national championship.

The first college sports competition to be televised took place at Madison Square Garden in the year 1940. Pittsburgh beat Fordham, 57 to 37, and New York University beat Georgetown, 50 to 27. Since the arrival of television, the fame of college basketball has bowed up. March Madness is time after time is considered to be one of the most watched events of the year and attracts more than 700,000 fans and audiences.
