The LATC, the first large-scale open-air tennis stadium released in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, was formally devoted on May 20, 1984, just in time to host the 1984 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and the 1984 Olympic Games tennis contest. Since then, the UCLA Tennis Center has been site of numerous top collegiate and professional tournaments. The NCAA Women's Tennis Championships returned to the Los Angeles Tennis Center in 1987 and '88, while the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships called the LATC house in 1997.
